Telling the Story

“Another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what He had done for Israel.” –Judges 2:10

The last two weeks as I’ve been studying through Judges, this particular verse keeps being brought to the forefront of my mind. The book of Judges goes through the repeating cycle of the Israelites running to other Gods that aren’t the one true God, becoming enslaved to another country, and then crying to God to deliver them from their oppression. But even though He knows that they will run to something else again, God raises up a leader to lead them out of their oppression and back to Him. What an act of mercy and grace!
But as soon as the leader that God has raised up is out of the picture, the Israelites once again find themselves in a situation similar to the verse at the beginning of this post. How quickly do God’s people forget what He has done for them! Think of all the years of misery and sin the Israelites could have avoided if they had stayed faithful to God and remembered often what He had done to rescue them!
As I begin my third year as a staff member at Tarleton Baptist Student Ministry, I have been honored to be a part of the work that God is doing on this campus. As I transition to Associate Director at this campus, I have to remind myself that every individual in ministry has a responsibility to tell the story of what God is doing in their midst to avoid a scenario like the one found in Judges where a whole generation has gone without knowing God or what He has done for them. I find myself at Tarleton, being one of the many storytellers who is privileged to testify to God’s power both to students who have never heard it, and to others who are laboring alongside us.
The point of this blog is to keep our ministry partners who are not physically close to us in the loop of what God is doing and also to provide information on what Sarah and I do! If you want to get our monthly email updates, click support and follow the instructions! If you would like to partner with us financially and help fund Sarah and I as we do life alongside college students, follow this link, click on the “Donate” button, and type my name in the “Special Instructions” box.
Thank you so much for your prayer and involvement in the ministry that is taking place among us!
